Condors win back-to-back games at home
Hit the road for two games in Ontario this week

Bakersfield, Calif. The Bakersfield Condors finished the week posting a 2-1-0-0 record, including a return to Rabobank Arena that saw the Condors earn a pair of victories. The Condors are now 10-13-1-0 this season and are third in the Pacific Division, seven points out first place, which is shared by Stockton and Las Vegas.

CINCINNATI 5 vs. Condors 0

The Condors wrapped up a three game trip to Ohio with a loss to the Cyclones. Just over the half-way point of the first period, LW Dylan Hunter slid a backhander through the five-hole of G Josh Tordjman to put the Cyclones up 1-0. It was followed shortly after by a goal from F Mathieu Aubin. The Cylcones increased their lead to 3-0 when Hunter scored his second goal of the game 6:46 into the second frame. The scoring was capped by two third period goals by Christiaan Minella and Chris Clackson, as the Cylcones won 5-0.

CONDORS 5 vs. Stockton 3

Condors LW J.D. Corbin and F Bobby Robins returned from IR and centers Joel Broda and Pete Zingoni were assigned to Bakersfield by the Minnesota Wild, and all four had an impact in the game. Corbin earned three assists, Broda scored twice, Zingoni picked up a helper, and Bobby Robins engaged in two fights en route to a 5-3 win. D Joey Ryan scored the first goal of the game, with a slap shot from the point that deflected past G Bryan Pitton. Stockton tied it up at 1-1 at the 11:16, but Broda notched his first of the game less than four minutes later to give the Condors a 2-1 lead at the first intermission. C Chris Lawrence scored a power goal to even the score at 2-2, but the Condors struck twice in the period on goals from LW Kyle Calder and Broda to hold a 4-2 lead after the second. Calder scored again with a power play goal at the 3:22 mark of the third, and the Condors cruised to the victory.

Saturday, Dec. 11

CONDORS 4 vs. Ontario 1

F Slava Trukhno notched his second goal of the season just 2:27 into the game after leading a 3-on-2 rush into the Ontario zone and firing a wrister into the top corner of the net. A Condors penalty shortly after led to the only Ontario goal of the game, tying it up at 1-1. But it was all Condors after that, as Erik Burgdoerfer scored his first professional goal to give the Condors a 2-1 lead going into the second period. RW Stephane Goulet scored his tenth goal of the season at the 9:16 mark, and Trukhno added his second goal of the game just 18 seconds later to cap off the scoring for the night. RW Pascal Morency returned to lineup and dropped the gloves half-way through the first period. The Condors and Reign combined for 90 minutes in penalties in the game, and Bakersfield outshot Ontario 41-23 on the night.

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

  • The Condors held their second jersey auction of the year on Saturday with the All-Star Jersey Off Our Backs Raffle and Auction. The auction raised $20,050 for the Petroleum Shrine Club. LW Kyle Calder’s jersey earned the highest bid, going for $1,700.
  • D Erik Burgdoerfer celebrated his birthday by scoring his first professional goal on Saturday. He also picked up an assist in the game.
  • Erick Lizon recorded 43 PIM in the three games this week to run his total up to 117 for the year. That total currently leads the ECHL.
  • LW Kyle Calder, F Bobby Robins, C Joel Broda, and C Pete Zingoni all played their first Condors game of the year this week, while RW Pascal Morency and LW J.D. Corbin returned to lineup after missing significant time on the IR.
  • G Josh Tordjman earned back-to-back wins for the first time this year.
  • Minnesota assignees C Joel Broda and C Pete Zingoni combined for 5 points on the weekend with 2 goals and 3 assists They began the season in Houston (AHL), but were reassigned to the Condors on Thursday.
  • The Condors are 2nd in the ECHL with 545 PIM. The Condors share the ECHL lead of 31 major penalties with the Stockton Thunder
  • F Slava Trukhno has recorded two or more points in 4 of his 10 games. He has had 3 points in a game three times.

ON THE DOCKET:

The Condors head to the road for a pair of games against the Ontario Reign this weekend, before returning home to host the Stockton Thunder on back-to-back nights right after Christmas.

On Sunday, Dec. 26, the Condors will be giving away Lunch Box Tins to the first 2,000 kids, 12 and under, courtesy of ABC23, La Preciosa 105.3, and American Business Machines. There will also be a Boxing Day collection, as you can box up your items to donate to Goodwill at the game. Following the game, fans are invited to Skate with the Condors, limited skate rental is available for $5, and fans are encouraged to bring their own skates.

Monday, Dec, 27, is High School and College ID night, sponsored by My 45 and 92.5 La Campesina. All college and high school students can receive $1.00 lower level admission by presenting their student ID at the Box Office.
