BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The ECHL announced today that Bakersfield Condors forward Scott Freeman is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month for October.
Freeman, 23, recorded at least a point in each of the first six games of the season, amassing six goals and 10 points, both tops in the league during October. He racked up four multiple point games during the month, including a pair of multi-goal games.
Among his early season highlights, the Clarkson University grad scored twice in a 5-3 win against Idaho last Friday. He notched the game winning goal and also added a shorthanded penalty shot goal on the night, the first successful penalty shot for the Condors since November, 2004.
The Whitby, Ontario, native was acquired during training camp along with D Matt Campanale from the Chicago Express to complete the trade for Bobby Robins during the off-season. He has picked up in November where he left off, recording three points (1g, 2a) in last night’s 4-0 win in Alaska.
Freeman becomes the first Condors player to win Rookie of the Month honors since Yutaka Fukufuji in January, 2005. Connor James also won Rookie of the Month honors that season in October, and the trio stand as the only three Condors in team history to take such honors.
