Keetley shines with 42 saves in 4-0 shutout of Alaska

ANCHORAGE, AK – The Bakersfield Condors (4-3-1-0, 9pts) received a strong goaltending performance from Matt Keetley and and offensive outburst from their top line en route to a 4-0 shutout victory over the Alaska Aces (5-3-0-0, 10pts) on Wednesday night at Sullivan Arena.

Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the first period. Condors G Matt Keetley stopped 14 Aces’ shots, while Alaska G Gerald Coleman denied six Condors chances. Both teams were unsuccessful in their lone power play efforts.

Bakersfield became the first team to take a lead on the Aces’ home ice this season when RW Scott Freeman scored his seventh goal of the season, completing a nifty passing sequence from C Mathew Sisca and LW Jesse Gimblett at 5:21. The Condors extended their lead to 2-0 with a power-play tally from F Matt Marquardt who slapped a one-time feed at the top of the faceoff circle past Coleman at the 9:06 mark. It was Marquardt’s third of the year, assisted by C Casey Pierro-Zabotel and F Peter Boyd. Shots were 11-9 in favor of Alaska.

The Condors scored twice more in the third period with goals from Gimblett at 32 seconds and Sisca at 12:44 to cap the scoring at 4-0. Hans Benson and Gimblett both dropped the gloves in entertaining fights late in the third period. Keetley made 17 third period saves to preserve the shutout, 4-0.
