A LOVELY ROAD WIN FOR THE CONDORS IN SAN DIEGO
The Bakersfield Condors (26-15-7, 59pts) never trailed in a 5-4 road win over the San Diego Gulls (22-15-9, 53pts) on Saturday. With the win, the Condors remain in solo third in the Pacific Division.
Daniel D’Amato (6th) banged home a loose puck at the top of the crease to open the scoring at 1:57 of the first. The Gulls tied it just as a Condors penalty expired at 7:33. Bakersfield went back in front when Matvey Petrov (4th) deposited a Rhett Pitlick pass to make it 2-1 at 12:43. San Diego leveled it two minutes later to make it 2-2 after one.
The Condors struck shorthanded with Samuel Poulin (13th) following up his own rebound to make it 3-2 in the second. After the Gulls tied it for a third time, James Hamblin (17th) extended his scoring streak to six games with a snap shot from the left-wing dot in the last minute of the second to make it 4-3.
Isaac Howard (13th) gave the Condors a two-goal lead at 5-3 with a power-play goal at 1:53 of the third period. The Gulls would get within one, but the Condors hung on for the victory.
Hamblin has 16 points (9g-7a) in his last 15 games. Poulin’s shorthanded goal pulled the Condors into a tie for first in the AHL with eight on the year. D’Amato had a multi-point night with a goal and assist.
