Condors end 2010 with 2-1 shootout win
Look to sweep Steelheads tomorrow

BOISE, Idaho The Bakersfield Condors (15-14-1-0, 31pts) celebrated New Year’s Eve with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Idaho Steelheads (13-12-2-5, 33pts) in front of 4,851 fans at Qwest Arena on Friday Night.

Neither side was able to crack the scoreboard in the first period, although the Steelheads had a near miss. A puck rang off the post on the far side, and popped out from behind G Josh Tordjman. The period ended tied 0-0.

The Steelheads broke the scoreless tie 9:22 into the second period. C Cody Purves collected a rebound and popped it over Tordjman to put the Steelheads on top. F Andrew Ianiero answered for Bakersfield when he cruised into the zone along the left wing and zipped a wrist shot past G Mike Zacharias. The game was tied 1-1 going into the third period.

Idaho had a great chance to take a lead when Purves was awarded a penalty shot 11:15 into the period, but Tordjman came up with the save and helped Bakersfield force overtime and the eventual shootout. Bakersfield picked up the 2-1 victory in the shootout with goals from F Michael Gergen and RW Stephane Goulet. Tordjman turned aside 4 of the 5 shots he faced in the shootout.
