Condors knock down Stockton 5-3

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. Kyle Calder picked up two goals and added an assist to lead the Bakersfield Condors (9-13-1-0, 19pts) over the Stockton Thunder (11-5-1-3, 26pts) 5-3 on Friday night in front of 4,377 fans at Rabobank Arena.

The Condors took a 1-0 lead with D Joey Ryan’s third of the season just 3:03 into the contest. Stockton answered with a tally at 13:16, but newly reassigned C Joel Broda regained the advantage for J.D. CorbinBakersfield moments later, snapping home his first ECHL goal of the season at 14:45. Both teams put 12 shots on goal in the first. G Josh Tordjman got the start for the Condors while Stockton countered with G Bryan Pitton.

The fans saw fireworks in the second frame with the Condors scoring two more times and three separate fights breaking out. After Stockton tied it up early in the period, LW Kyle Calder potted his first of the season at 5:15 to jump back in front. Broda netted his second of the night at 17:24 to make it 4-2 Condors. Second period fisticuffs included D Joe Rullier, RW Erick Lizon and F Bobby Robins.

Both teams added a third period tally, with Calder notching his second of the night to put the game out of reach, just 3:22 into the frame. The power play goal made it 5-2. The Thunder added a marker of their own in the waning minutes, but the Condors took the win. Stockton led in shots 35-33 on the night, and Tordjman finished with 32 saves.
