Condors late surge falls just short as Walleye win 4-3
Condors look to strike back tomorrow

TOLEDO, Ohio The Bakersfield Condors (8-11-1-0, 17pts) fought to the final whistle, but fell to the Toledo Walleye (7-11-1-1, 16pts) in front of 4,792 fans at the Hunting Center on Friday night.

The Walleye needed less than five minutes to grab the early lead. D Kyle Page fired a shot from the right point with RW Dominic Osman screen Condors G Josh Tordjman. Page’s shot snuck inside the right post to give Toledo a 1-0 lead. The Walleye increased that to 2-0 exactly 13 minutes later, when C Peter Leblanc raced in on a breakaway and slid in a backhand shot.

The Condors were able to cut into the lead late in the second period. With just over five minutes left in the period, D J.F. David collected a rebound off G Jordan Pearce and deposited a backhand into the net to bring the score to 2-1 after the second period.

The scoring opened up in the third period, as the Walleye regained their two goal advantage with a power play goal by LW Willie Coetzee. C Adam Naglich struck right back for Bakersfield with a power goal of his own after a nice cross-ice feed from F Slava Trukhno. LW Andy Bohmbach scored for Toledo at the 9:00 minute mark to bring the score to 4-2, but the Condors refused to quit. Naglich struck again on the power play with just under a minute left to bring the Condors back to within one, but their late comeback bid fell just short, as the Walleye held on for the 4-3 victory.
