Condors Weekly: Condors kick off nine-game home stand with three game sweep

Bakersfield, Calif.The Condors started a record nine game home stand with three wins over the Idaho Steelheads to move the Condors past Idaho and into fourth place in the Western Conference. The Condors now have 71 points this season, which is just one back from the Stockton Thunder. Alaska leads the Conference with 79 points, and the Las Vegas Wranglers are second with 75.

D Joey Ryan scored the first goal of the evening 7:53 into the second, granting the Condors a 1-0 lead going into the third period. D Evan Stoflet increased the lead to 2-0 before LW Mark Derlago punched home the only Steelheads goal. CONDORS 6 vs. Idaho 4

Despite leading 2-1 after the first period, Bakersfield surrendered three straight in the second and trailed 4-2 heading into the game’s final frame. The Condors found strength in their power play however, with F Bobby Robins scoring to bring the score to 4-3 and F Andrew Ianiero netting the game winner, both on the man-advantage, as the Condors rallied for four goals in the final period.

CONDORS 2 vs. Idaho 1

For the second straight game, the Condors mustered a third period comeback to take down the Steelheads and collect a three game sweep. F Bobby Robins scored for the second straight game and LW Guillaume Lefebvre netted the game winner to push the Condors ahead of Idaho in the standings. G Brian Stewart stopped 25 shots to earn his sixth straight win on home ice.

 

 

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

  • The Condors won back-to-back games when trailing after the second period last weekend. The wins marked the 3rd and 4th time the Condors have won when trailing after two periods.
  • G Brian Stewart is 6-1-0 on home ice, with his only loss coming on Jan. 8, his first start as a Condor.
  • LW Guillaume Lefebvre and RW Bobby Robins each have 5 game point streaks, placing them in a tie for the second longest such streaks of the year. F Slava Trukhno owns the season high with 9 points (2g-7a) in 7 games.
  • The Condors have not lost a Friday night home game this year, collecting a 10-0-0 record on the season.
  • Bakersfield punched their ticket to the Kelly Cup Playoffs on Saturday as they are now mathematically out of reach of the last place Ontario Reign.
  • D Evan Stoflet scored his third game winning goal of the year on Tuesday. It places him a tie for third all-time among Condors defensemen in that category.
  • The Condors have now won 7 of their last 8 games at home, including sweeps in each of their last two home weekends.

The Condors play games 4, 5, and 6 of a 9 game home stand this week. Alaska visits Rabobank Arena on Wednesday for High School/College ID Night, sponsored by 92.5 La Campesina. Fans can donate new or lightly used books to earn $1 admission. The Condors will also be holding a Book Drive and School Supply Collection to assist Olive Knolls Christian School, sponsored by Wells Fargo. Fans who donate new unopened school supplies can get $1 admission to the game.

 

The Ontario Reign come to Condorstown on Friday on Saturday to wrap up the weekend. Skateboard Deck Giveaway takes place on Friday, sponsored by ABC23 and 106.1 KRAB Radio. The first 2,000 fans 17 and under will receive a Condors Skateboard Deck.

 

The Condors Fighting Cancer Hockey-thon is on Saturday, sponsored by 29 Eyewitness News and KUZZ 107.9. Over 24 hours of Bakersfield hockey concludes as the Condors look to raise money for Links for Life.
