School Supply Drive, Skateboard Decks and Hockey-Thon all this week!

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors, ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, continue their three-week home stand with three contests this week on Wednesday night against the Alaska Aces, as well as Friday and Saturday night against the Ontario Reign. All three games start at 7 p.m., while the doors open at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, and 4:45 p.m. for pre-game Hockey-Thon festivities on Saturday.

Wednesday, Mar. 16
The Condors host High School/College ID Night Wednesday night against the Aces, sponsored by La Campesina 92.5. Show your high school or college student ID at the box office and purchase a lower level ticket for just $1. The Condors and Wells Fargo are also hosting Book Drive and School Supply Drive, to benefit Olive Knolls Christian School Olive Knolls in their recovery efforts after the recent fire that damaged most of the elementary and preschool wings. Make a donation of two new/slightly used books or unopened school supplies and you can get a terrace level ticket for just $1. For more information on which supplies are most needed, click here.

As part of the evening’s festivities, Carson Ballard, a 3rd grade student at Olive Knolls, will be dropping a ceremonial first puck. Also U.S. Army Sgt. Christopher Collins, who recently returned from Iraq, will be a puck dropper as well. The last time the Aces and Condors met was in late January, in which a Condors record was broken for penalty minutes, and 29 games in suspensions were handed out to several players and head coach Marty Raymond.

Friday night’s game features a new promotion, with Skateboard Deck Giveaway, sponsored by ABC23 and 106.1 KRAB Radio. The first 2,000 fans 17 and under will go home with this unique giveaway item, a full-sized skateboard deck. Now all you need are wheels and a first-aid kit and you’re good to go!

Saturday, Mar. 19
Saturday night’s game concludes the 7th annual Condors Fighting Cancer Hockey-Thon, sponsored by 29 Eyewitness News and KUZZ 107.9, an around-the-clock hockey marathon that will raise money for Links for Life, a local breast cancer awareness center. Local hockey players raise pledge money to play in games all day and night, with the Hockey-Thon wrapping up with a Condors Alumni Game Hockeythonand the current team taking on the Reign on Saturday. In the previous six seasons, over $234,000 has been raised through this event.

Doors open at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday prior to the Alumni Game. A ticket to the Condors game at 7 p.m. will get you in to see the alumni (such as Paul Rosebush, Glen Mears, Scott Hay, Jamie Cooke, Steve Dowhy and more) skate at 5 p.m. There will be a live and silent auction throughout the night to contribute to the proceeds as well.

The Hockey-Thon really starts at 11:59 p.m. on Friday night, when scores of amateur, youth and adult league hockey players take the ice. Each have raised cash to donate to the cause, and they will play games around the clock, throughout the night, into morning and beyond, concluding with the Alumni game Saturday night.  Click here to visit the Condors Hockey-Thon page of the website.

It’s also Trading Card Giveaway #5 on the season, with the first 3,000 fans taking home the final set from the collectible card giveaways. Head Coach Marty Raymond, D Tyler Gotto, LW Brad Snetsinger, F Michael Gergen, D Jay Cascalenda and LW Guillaume Lefebvre are featured on this set. It’s also the final Kids Club Game of the season, so members should bring their ID badge to the box office to receive complimentary admission.

Autograph Booth:
Following every home game, players will be available at the Bakersfield Marriott at the Convention Center Autograph Booth, located on the arena concourse behind section 108. The schedule for the week includes C Adam Naglich and G Jim Watt on Wednesday, D Evan Stoflet and C Rylan Kaip on Friday and D Tyler Gotto on Saturday. Players will be available approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of each contest to greet fans and sign autographs.

Wednesday and Saturday’s game will be carried live as well over terrestrial radio on Fox Sports Radio 970 AM.
